National Committee Meeting - Minutes Summary
Last month we came from far and wide to have our national committee meeting in Auckland in order to get to know everyone and run through the roles, events and general plan for the upcoming year. The president, communications, events and financial coordinators were elected at Superstudio last year, along with a bunch of representatives from each school.
At the meeting, the general consensus was that networking is probably the most valuable thing we can provide for your membership. So our main goal is to engage architecture students of New Zealand with other students and the wider community, improving the experience of architectural study.
How are we going to do this in 2011? We're going to continue running the funtastic Superstudio and sTutes and let you know about events that you can get into for free as a SANNZ member (like NZIA CPD events). Something we're all really excited about this year is a design competition in Ohakune, which will be a student - practice integrated competition, with mixed teams of students and architects. And of course FLUX - the Australia New Zealand Student Architecture Congress is happening this year in Adelaide, we are really keen for SANNZ members to try and make it over.
We also want to keep you in the know about other competitions, lecture series, and other semi-relevant events which might interest you or enhance your experience of architecture school. We're going to do this by keeping the website updated more regularly, as well as good ol' facebook and monthly email newsletters.
This year we would also really like to bolster our membership numbers - for those of you who tend to tag along to events but have never gotten around to signing up - make this the year! For less than $55 you get a pretty good deal, considering you get free entry to SANNZ events, fed at Superstudio, magazines, and if we're as lucky this year as we were last year - a free train ride to Auckland!
And lastly, but not leastly, we want to foster a collaborative and open community, which welcomes members and gets the stuff done which we said we would do.
